Hi,

I have University degree in IT and 4+ years of experience working in a reputed consulting/technology firm as Software Engineer.
Can I apply for PR in Canada now.

Presently I am on student visa in Toronto for 2 year program IT in a college and will be eligible for application for PR only after 1 year work experience post completion of my studies.
From present date it will take almost 3 years !!

I can't predict what will be the condition after 3 years for the PR and I think it would be too long duration to wait for PR
application , since I already have enough work experience.

Can you please guide me , what can I do for faster PR application or waiting for 3 years will be good enough.

Thanks,
Siddhesh.

If you can get a permanent job offer in Canada then you may be able to apply for PR under FSW.

correct me if I am wrong, as far as I understand, your working experience accumulated while you are on a student visa will not account towards the experience requirement, at least this is true for CEC applications. This means any summer job, internship, etc are all excluded.

I have that experience as full time employee after my graduation in my home country and not in Canada.
The work experience does not include summer job/intership/co-op etc..

I recently came to Canada on 2 year study permit. But waiting another for 3 years ( 2 years study + 1 year work) for applying for PR is long duration.

Can I apply for the PR now. ?

Do you have a permanent job offer in Canada?

Well, not now.. still a student , will have it after completion of my studies.
Then I don't think you can apply now - unless you have read through the various immigration categories and have found a program you think you qualify under now.

The Federal Skilled Worker class was accepting applications for some IT occupations with job experience / without a job offer - however those occupations have reached their cap (meaning that CIC was only accepting a certain number of applications). You can still apply, but you would now need a job offer since the cap has been reached.

You would need to find an immigration class that you qualify under. Look at the CIC website. There are many classes there. CEC requires 12 months full time work in a skilled position in Canada after graduating your program so you don't qualify for that. FSW requires a job offer right now because the caps are full. You can also look under the PNP in your province. Maybe they have an immigration class you qualify under although most of them expect a student to graduate and then have a job offer and possibly even work for a bit before applying. There is also Quebec skilled worker which doesn't require a job offer but you would need French and you would need to be intending to settle in Quebec.

If there is no immigration class that you can find that you qualify under at this point, then no, you can not apply now.
