Hello,
I would appreciate if anyone knows if I would be eligible for health insurance in Alberta on the first day of arrival while I'm pregnant already. My husband and I landed last October 2012 in BC and we stayed there for only a week and got back to our homeland. Now we are planning to move to Alberta. I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and I need health coverage from the first day of arrival. Do I get this coverage as soon as I reach there?

We are FSW immigrants.

Yes. Because you did not settle in BC, you will be treated as new immigrants in AB and will have the right to first day health care.

In order to register for health care, you need some official mail with your AB address. Some people have done this right away by opening a bank account and then getting the bank to print them something out with their AB address on it. Then you go register for health care.

If you need to use health care before your health card is issued, you will be re-imbursed if you send them the bill.
