Apply for CEC and Visitor Visa Extension

I will be applying for PR under CEC around SEP'2013 and as my Wife & Kids valid stay expires by Nov'13, i will have to apply for their extension around Sep, Oct'2013(They both have valid Visa until 2016).

Is it ok if i file for PR first and then apply for extention or VICE-VERSA? Will i have to mention in another of the forms that i applied for PR etc

These are 2 different applications you can do either way no difference.
Visitor record extension of your family members are linked to your current work permit , You can apply for their extension up to your current work permit expiry date.
