Applied for visitors visa before work permit expires

I have a friend that is currently working in Canada. However, her work permit was going to expire in about 2 months, so she applied for a visitor's visa to extend her stay. The problem is if she gets approved for her visitor's visa before her work permit expires, will that automatically cancel out her work permit, shortening her eligible work term? If so, is there some way to change or cancel the visa application so she can continue to work until her original last day and then become a visitor? Thank you in advance for any insights or advice!

visas and permits are two different things. You can hold both at the same time they do not cancel each other out.

visas = allow entry to Canada, do not permit you to stay for the duration on the visa (for example, for a one year visa, you can probably stay 6 months consecutively).
permits = give you statuses in Canada (for example, study permit = student status; work permit = worker status) that allow you to remain in Canada for the duration of the permit.

Depends on what your friend's intention of applying for a visitor visa, they might not grant her a visa. For example, if her intention is to solely remain in Canada then no. Visitor visas are for people to visit and get out, not to stay here unless you can prove legit dual intent (look it up on IRCC website).

If she has a PR application in progress and her work permit is expiring then she should apply for a bridge work permit to wait for a decision on her PR application.
If she wants to extend her work permit then she should apply for a work permit extension.
