Hi,

I guess you will still have to declare that you applied for refugee status in australia and explain what happened to that process. I can only guess they didn't grant you the refugee status and it may hurt your case depending on which grounds they denied it.

Regards.

Well, I think you still have to write about it in the Schedule 1 Background / Declaration, Question 9. But like you said if nothing bad happened, then you don't have to worry about.

Regards.

You should mention that you applied for Refuge status in Australia and then withdrew it on your own.

Canada shares immigration information with USA, Australia, New Zealand and the European Union and there is a high probability that they will know even if you dont disclose it.

So better be safe than sorry later.

Do not hide anything... be sincere and quote real reasons.

If your case is genuine, they will not stop. But, they need to ensure that they are not givining immigration to someone who could be a burden or a threat to society. So, if they find anything remotely wrong in your application, your immigration to North America, Europe and Australia will be permamnently jeopardised.

be safe...

The most important thing at this point is not that they will refuse the case bec you applied as a refuge in Australia. But the important thing is , can you arrange police clearance certificate from australia. I guess that you have been living there for more than 6 months.

I personally have the opinion that refuge status in a country is not a big issue and nothing to do with canadian immigration. All you have to do is that to prove that you left Australia legally and without depotation or any type of criminal record while staying in that country. Lets come up other seniors with more comments....Rupershari, leon, and PMM superstars comments are also important.

I don't think this would be a problem. Applying for refugee status is not a crime.
I am no expert at this so would also rather wait for seniors to reply.

To all those who had been living in Australia on refugee status,

I am also sailing in the same boat. I also went to Australia in 1997 on student visa. After my student visa expired, I chose to apply for extension with work permit, but few people told me that my diploma from the college from which I obtained will not be considered for the work permit or PR since the college was non-standard. Then I opted for refugee and worked illegally for next one year. But then, my place was raided by the DIMA officials and my illegal working was proved since my taxi was parked outside my house and based on that, they either asked me to withdraw the refugee file or remain in the detention centre till my refugee status is finalised. But I chose to flew back on my own ticket after withdrawing my refugee file. Let me mention here friends, that I had many friends in Australia who were deported either for exceeding the work limits (they were students in the same college where I was studying) or they were on refugee status and we all came back to India in same flight. But, most of them have gone back 3-4 years ago as dependent of their spouse who was principal student applicant. Now I also want to apply for Canada Immigration under federal skill programme, but just wondering whether my refugee status will be a barrier in getting the status clear.

Getting a PCC from Australia is also not an issue as it can be obtained remaining in your home country.

Guys,

I knew few people who seeked asylum in European countries and the claims were rejected by the authorities then they went back to their home countires and applied for US and Canadian Visa's they didn't had any problems.

I dont know how they escaped and got through the finger-print matching.

Regards,
