Hi all,
We have stayed for more then 3 years in Canada and then applied for citizenship. One month later the whole family return to home country.

Application sent February 2011
Acknowledge letter August 2011
Start processing January 2012

Our PR cards have expired since 2 month ago and we still live abroad (in visa-exempt country).

Please help me with the following questions:
How long time can we stay abroad until receiving the citizenship test scheduled?
To obtain a travel document can we show the letters from CIC regarding citizenship test to the embassy?
if we will be called to citizenship test and obtaining travel document how to answere any questions during the test regarding where du you live or where do you work? (My wife and me work in thr home country)?

Thanks you

Until you take an oath and receive your citizenship, you have to make sure your PR status is valid. You need to be in Canada 2 years out of past 5 years.

As long as your PR status is valid, you have a right to request and obtain a travel document from any Canadian Embassy abroad. If you hold a passport from a visa-exempt country, you could arrive in Canada using a passport. But if your PR status is not valid, immigration officer might give an option to relinquish PR status voluntarily or give 30 days to appeal removal order.

You are supposed to state everything correctly. You will very likely get an RQ. Falsifying information can only make the matter worse. Technically even if you obtain your citizenship, there could be a ground for revocation if you falsified information during the process of application.

Also keep in mind that you could have a problem getting a travel document fast enough. They do not notify people about their exam dates with very much notice. Depending on where you live, it could take you so long to get a travel document that you miss your exam. If that happens, you could still reschedule but you do not know when they will call you again. It would be better for you to go back to Canada soon and renew your PR cards so you can be ready to go back any time.
