Hello,
I just landed in Toronto 3 wks ago, on arrival I have given pre printed landing document (IMM 5688) (received through my agency in India), I have failed to change the marital status (which was pre printed as single) to married on arrival.

I got married couple of days prior to receiving my visa. I was single while processing the application for PR and There were not enough time to change the status.

Now when I called CIC to inform the change of status and to go ahead with spousal sponsorship, the agent told me that I have mis represented and I should have changed the status while landing. Now I am kind of worried if this will cause to reject my spousal sponsorship application.

Should I be worried? should I just sent an explanation letter with the application.

Thanks

Yes - unfortunately there is a great deal to be concerned about.

There are two consequences to what you have done (landing as single when you were in fact married):

1) You can never sponsor your spouse. (Yes - that's NEVER.)
2) You could have your PR status revoked by CIC because you misrepresented yourself by landing as single when you were in fact married.

To answer the next question you will likely ask - no, there's no way you can fix or undo this. It's too late. What you should have done is either waited until after landing to get married - or returned your visa after your marriage, added your spouse to your application and waited for CIC to re-issue a visa for both of you.

The only real option now is to have your spouse immigrate independently through one of the skilled worker or other immigration classes.

FYI - this information that was provided by CIC is incorrect (unfortunately the agents sometimes give out wrong information). It's not possible to change your marital status during the landing process. As mentioned in my previous post - to change your status, you must return your visa (before you land), complete the paperwork for your spouse, wait for CIC to process your spouse's paperwork and then have CIC reissue the visa for both of you.

It was on the application protocol/standard to inform CIC to any changes in family composition, address, etc. I am just not sure if you can still possibly sponsor your wife given the circumstances but if you are legally married and your relationship is genuine then maybe you can ask a immigration Lawyer to help you out and better assess your situation.

scylla has point though your PR might be in question because of misrepresentation.
