Hi

I always thought our entire application would take about 6 months (I could have sworn I read that somewher on the CIC website. Now, I cant seem to find that information.

I only see that the first step will take about 42 days. Please, does anyone knw how long d second step will take or where I can get this information. This is an outland application, so its going to Nigeria. All I can now see on the CIC website is Africa and thats not very specific.

I had planned to file this application and then get my spouse to some in to Canada on a visitors visa, hoping that the application would be done at the end of his 6 months visa, then he would not need to leave at all. (only cos I was pretty sure it would be completed within 6 months.) I dont want to make a big blunder.

Advice, anyone.
Thank U.

An application for a Nigerian resident or national will be sent to Accra and will take 11-20 months to process, adding up to 12-21 months including the processing time for the sponsorship application in Mississauga.

Maybe an inland application might be worth looking into?

Immigration might let him enter for six months, but if they're not satisfied that he'd return when his visa has expired they might deny him.

They probably won't let him enter on a temporary visa. They know he wants to stay in Canada, in particular now that he has a Canadian wife. Better get used to going to visit him. My husband's Nigerian. I asked the CIC hotline and also the Deputy High Commission in Lagos if he could come to Canada on a temporary resident visa while we waited for his application to be processed, and they said that of course we could apply, but the implication was that we would just be wasting our money. AS for the six months - the length of time it takes to finalize visa applications is on the CIC website, and it is updated frequently. Applications going through Accra take at least 11 months at the moment, and most take a lot longer. As a comparison, my husband applied in January, 2008, and his application was rejected in May, 2009. We sent in notice that we would appeal in June, 2009, and so far nothing else has happened.
BTW, almost half of all spousal visa applications get rejected in Accra.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your husband's application. If U dont mind me asking, why was he rejected?
Also, did u go the outland or inland route.

Lastly, why do you think/say Accra spousal applications get rejected often? (Very depressing :( )

Lots of fraudulent applications are being filed.

We applied outland, because he was rejected for a temporary visa even before we were married. His application for PR was rejected because the visa officer didn't believe our marriage was genuine. In particular, she didn't think we knew enough about each other.

It is very difficult to get a visitor's visa out of Nigeria. My husband tried and was refused with no explanation. It takes a long time for PR but may be worth it in the long run. Prairie

This entire process terrifies me. I met my fiance online in July of 2008. He is Nigerian, living in London while attending school. However, they are trying so hard to deny visas to African students in UK, and he is now on his 4th and final appeal, trying to maintain his student status, and giving him time to finish his masters program.

He has been denied a TRV due to his nationality, so while he has never been to Canada, I have been over to London to visit him 6 times. We send emails every day, talk on the phone or skype for 2-3 hours each day and have documentation to back all this up. Have given/sent each other tons of gifts and letters. If his visa is denied, he will have to move back to Lagos. We are getting married in April (after being engaged a year) and his application will go through Accra.

I am absolutely terrified our application will be rejected, and that the process will take years. Just thinking about it takes my breath away. I am okay to wait awhile, I would be very happy if took 18 months or less, so I am not expecting this to happen quickly, but I am just terrified.

Sometimes I wish I hadn't met him because then I would never know my soulmate existed, and I would have probably found a suitable partner here in Alberta. That said, the two of us together is the best thing that ever happened to either of us and both of us will do whatever it takes to be together.

We can't wait to be together and start a family. I'm 31, and I worry if it takes too long it might be more difficult to have children, and he doesn't want to be an old father (he's 33).

We have talked so many times about how it feels like we have won the lottery, but we can't have the money for 2 years. That's what falling in love with someone from West Africa feels like. I know eventually I will be happy and have everything I want...it's right there in front of me...but I just can't have it yet.

Sorry to throw this out here under your post, I just haven't seen many people on here with Nigerian spouses. I would love to hear from any of you - laurabradley@telus.net

Take care everyone!

Laura

With all this evidence of a genuine relationship, I'm sure his application will be accepted.

Yes, send proof of his Canadian citizenship. You should apply for his proof of citizenship, and then for his Canadian passport.
