Hello,

I am trying to fill in the application forms and I have some doubts that I can't find the definite answer to after weeks of research. So I hope people who have already applied can help me out. Especially those who are almost at the end of the process.

1. Do I have to include all day trips to USA and Malaysia(I was from Singapore) by car? Or just trips of more than 24 hours?

2. I backpacked in Italy and Vietnam, so can I write "various cities", Italy/Vietnam? Or do I have to list every city visited?

3. I was training in Australia from Aug 2010 to Feb 2011, but I had a 1 week vacation during christmas and went back to Singapore so that wasn't a consecutive 6 months. Do I have to answer "yes" to the question where they ask if you lived in a country other than your country of residence for more than 6 months??

4. For IMM 5669, how detailed must I be when filling out the background/personal history? I know that there must not be a gap in time but do I just list the main activities or do I have to list part time jobs while studying as well? Can I use abbreviations for the school name?

5. My passport and birth cert are in English. Do I need to get them notarized?

Any help will be greatly appreciated guys! Even if you only know the answer to 1 of my questions, I will appreciate that. Thank you!

All trips in your passport(s).

The detail is by country not by cities (annotate the major ones).

When you go on vacation to somewhere do you stop living where you live?

Use common sense, this will answer most of the questions.

You can write for periods where the activity was similar, for example if you were a student within different programs at a university you can write "student at university". Use common sense.

Notarization and translation are mutually exclusive. Why would you need to notarize an English document? Use common sense.

Hi Jalex23, thanks for replying and I appreciate that you tried to help. However I find it offensive that you mentioned "common sense" 3 times.

First of all, I don't think that I am asking stupid questions that can be simply answered with common sense. There are many different opinions on the questions I asked. So I just want to know what is the best/correct way to fill in the forms.

Sencondly, I don't think you understand my questions 2, 3, & 4. When you fill in your travel history, CIC wants to know which city and country. So in the case of multiple cities, I just wanna know how to properly present to CIC. And your replies to questions 3 & 4 are totally not related to my questions. It doesn't make any sense. So perhaps you can use a little common sense yourself? Cheers! 8)

I included each and every trip in the form. It's never a mistake to provide too much information.
And the instruction guide says: List all trips you have taken outside your country of origin or of residence in the last ten years (or since your 18th birthday if this was less than ten years ago). Include all trips: tourism, business, training, etc.

2. I backpacked in Italy and Vietnam, so can I write "various cities", Italy/Vietnam? Or do I have to list every city visited?

Again, I would provide as much information as possible. Put one city and the country in the form and attach a small letter refering
to the question and elaborate and name all cities you've been to in that particular country. If the list is too long or you can't remember,
try and be as precise as possible, without naming every little village.

Yes, I would answer with yes and provide the information. I keep repeating myself, but it's always better to provide more
information, especially when you're not sure.

4. For IMM 5669, how detailed must I be when filling out the background/personal history? I know that there must not be a gap in time but do I just list the main activities or do I have to list part time jobs while studying as well? Can I use abbreviations for the school name?

Be as precise as possible and yes, DO NOT leave gaps in time. Times and dates can overlap, that's not a problem.
Abbreviations can be used as long as everyone will be able to understand and read it, if it's a matter of you not having
enough space on the form, attach a separate sheet of paper and provide the full information there.

5. My passport and birth cert are in English. Do I need to get them notarized?

No, only documents not in English or French need a translation/notarization.

Any help will be greatly appreciated guys! Even if you only know the answer to 1 of my questions, I will appreciate that. Thank you!

Hope this helps,

T.

No one said your questions were stupid. Please don't assume I did.

The answers were clear and obvious. Let's see:

"I was training in Australia from Aug 2010 to Feb 2011, but I had a 1 week vacation during christmas and went back to Singapore so that wasn't a consecutive 6 months. Do I have to answer "yes" to the question where they ask if you lived in a country other than your country of residence for more than 6 months??"

You don't stop living in a place because you leave on vacations. Vacations are named like that because they imply you are leaving temporarily, therefore you are not RELOCATING. If you are not relocating you still live in that place, therefore you would have to answer YES. Now let's use "common sense": let's say that you are living in the border of your country and you just cross the border for a few hours for shopping... did you stop living in your country? No. Therefore the same logic applies in here, you just left for a few days.

I find it more offensive to explain all this to you (as if you weren't capable of doing this reasoning) as it is quite obvious and all can be easily deduced using common sense (fourth time without offensive implications).

And I insist, if you use this way of thinking you can find answers to your questions much more easily and faster.

If you look through this forum, there are many others who have the same questions as me. And there are no straight answers to their questions, only different opinions and different answers. That's why we are all confused. On the application guide, it clearly says that you only need to list down countries in which you have resided in for 6 or more consecutive months. Which you also need to submit PCC from those countries where you resided 6 or more consecutive months. And btw, it was an immigration agency who told me that I need to notarize my birth cert and passport even if it's in English. So that's why I have all these doubts, not that I'm not capable of reasoning like what you assumed.
