Application for sponsorship via USA - as non American!!!

Hey again,

I do have another question that I would like to post here - maybe anyone of you has already experience and can share it with us!

I am German - my boyfriend is Canadian, he is gonna sponsor me to become a permanent resident in Canada.
This morning I learned from another post, that it is possible to apply outland via the USA (New York Office) - even though none of is American.

Apparently, this possibilty exists, if I have been legally admitted to Canada for one year. I am currently here on a one year working holiday visa - which makes me admitted to Canada for one year (that`s what I am assuming).


The processing times in the US are faster and also in case of an interview, it`s much easier to travel to NY as to Europe.


BUT - I am not 100% sure, if I really am eligible to apply via the US - so my question, does anyone have experience with that or did any of you guys apply via the US under similar circumstances?

It is impossible to simply call CIC or the immigration bureau in NY to ask them directly.

I would appreciate if you`d share your experience with us

If you are admitted in the US for one year or more, then you can apply outland via US VO. In your case, you will need to apply either inland or outland via your home country VO.

Unfortunately, I cannot post a link - but on the CIC homepage - Contact us - CIC offices is a hyperlink that sais "where to send my application".
On that pages it sais: "Using the map below, find your country of nationality or country/territory where you have been legally admitted for one year."

If I click on Canada (which is the country I am currently legally admitted to for one year, as I have a one year work permit here) it tells me to apply via the USA, New York or LA.


That`s why I assume, I might be eligible to apply via the US.... ???

This topic is interesting.. too bad I am not able to help but I hope someone knows the answer!!
I wasn't aware of this when I sent my application and mainly ignored the "country where you have been legally admitted for one year" part. I was also in Canada for a year with a working holiday visa, but didn't think I could apply through US because of that. If it really is so, I could've been getting my PR way faster than now..

So, I just hope you can find an answer for this and you are able to apply through US. Good luck!!!!

Yeah, it was really a coincidence that I found out about that option this morning, I`ve never heard of it before!

I found this from CIC webpage http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-where.asp#c but not sure if it helps at all:
Visitors in Canada, who require a TRV, can no longer submit their application to a visa office in the United States when applying from inside Canada. They must apply either to the visa office responsible for their country of nationality, or to a visa office in a country in which they are present and have been legally admitted.

I'm not quite sure I even understand this.. because it says that you can't apply via US when applying inside Canada, but then the last sentence says "They must apply to -- a visa office in a country which they are present and have been legally admitted." ?!?

But it sais "visitors of Canada, who require a temporar resident visa (...)" - this rules us out already, as we are applying for a permanent resident visa, no?

It seems to be very diffucult, to get some reliable information on that!

Hmm.. I really don't know how this goes.. I wish CIC could be more clear about this on their webpage!

It does not apply to you. You are from visa exempt country, Germany.
