My mother was a Canadian born in 1909. I don't know the date she came to the USA which I need to know to complete the Citizenship Certificate Application. She married my father and never returned to Canada but retained her Canadian citizenship. I was born in 1952 and according to the cic.gc.ca I qualify for Canadian citizenship.
Her sister my aunt still lives in Canada but she is 100 years old and can't recall the dates. Is there anywhere I could find the dates that are required to complete the forms? Do they need the exact dates? I know the time frame within 10 years.

Is it possible that you could find out using census records from either Canada or the US? Genealogists may be able to help you track her down.

Aside from that, if you don't know and can't find out, you can go ahead and apply without that date. Just write a cover letter explaining the situation and then see what happens.

Thank you for your response. Canada said they keep no records of people going from Canada to the US by land border crossings. I did submit a genealogy request from US Immigration. They also had some questions which I could not answer. The wanted to know which border crossing was used to enter the US as well as date. I submitted as much info as I had and will hope for the best.
I will also write a cover letter to cic.gc. as you suggest and explain the situation. Do you think I could possibly get clarification before submitting the $200.00 non refundable application fee?

I'm not talking about tracking her entry specifically but trying to narrow the dates by tracking her down in a census from either US or Canada during some years of the period in question so instead of having a 10 year window of her entry, the window might be a bit smaller.

You can try sending in a request for info to Canada immigration and see what happens.

Thank you for the all your help.

If you know someone with a subscription to Ancestry.com You can get records of entry to the US in the Border Crossings and Passport Section.
