Application filling tips for tomorrow

Hello all,

Many will be filling the application tomorrow in hurry, please take care of the following:

• Pasting to a PDF can be a bit annoying, be careful!
• Sometimes PDF forces you to save as a new file after updates, tightly control the version of the file you will be printing
• Carefully read and asnwere Yes/No questions, there are many in the form, chances of overlooking an odd one is high, especially when you are in a hurry
• Carefully fill the various chronological information such as Address, Work and Education, and Children's Education histories. These are highly error prone!
• Carefully write addresses(City, State, Country, etc) of your employer, schools, colleges, universities, and that of your children.
• If possible get the application verified by a trusted person before putting inside the envelope...

Write unemployed with the period. CIC will not judge you...

...and do not get rushed by the overall euphoria to apply quickly. Make sure you have enough buffer days, particularly if you travel a lot! This saved me as I had forgotten a trip in my application.

On the old form I didnt see a section asking for address of employer It was merely the name, can you clarify this?

Corrected the OP. There sections are which ask for the part of the address of the employer, namely city and country. This can be tricky too given many work from home...

And also, I'd like to add, don't pay TOO much attention to what people say on this forum. There's a lot of bad information on here. Exercise caution and use common sense if what you're reading here doesn't sound right to you.

And also, don't stress TOO much. I mean...the common question of "which address are they asking about in the employment section"...that's probably not as important as people seem to think it is. You were working at, say, TD, for a certain period. That fact on its own is the most important to the officer. That you worked at this or that office is immaterial. If they have doubts, you gave them a contact number they can call if they like. Telling them which address you worked at will maybe help them add specificity to their query when they contact their old workplace, but it's not vital and will likely not be a determining factor in whether your application is approved or not.

With the tax question, even if you answer wrong in the form but CRA records show that you filed 3/5 years, you will probably be fine. They will probably wonder why you filled that section wrong and might do some extra checks, but that doesn't mean your $630 application gets discarded. Again, obviously, do try to fill the entire form accurately, but understand that the people reviewing this are humans who have seen mistakes before and understand that small mistakes do happen (such as misunderstanding a question).

So don't stress too much. Fill the forms to the best of your knowledge. if there's conflicting info on the internet, don't spend 5 hours verifying and re-asking the same question again and again. Just use your god given brain to make a judgement call. It probably won't make that much of a difference in the end....at the very worst, it causes you some delays.

I agree with you completely! Lot of junk being circulated in the guise of expert opinion.

For example:
I know one guy who went around saying the few weeks post 11th Oct would not make any difference, and then rushed his application the very same day....
