Application Confusion

To set things up, I'm a 29 year old Australian who four years ago applied for a working holiday visa, met a nice Canadian lad and did long distance for two years, reapplied for the temp working visa and am currently applying for residency under Common Law. Unfortunately it won't finish by the time my Working Tourist Visa is done. I'm still in Canada.

I completed the questionaire (seriously, the questions are convoluted) and at the end it suggested Application for Work Permit Made Outside of Canada (IMM1295) Did I answer questions wrong or is this a typical answer? Do I need to also fill out the Extend Your Stay Visa. And for Police report, since I've been here two years, does it need to be a Canadian Police report?

Hi kmaree,

you don't need to get a canadian police clearance because CIC has direct access to your record through the RCMP database.
if you applied for permanent residency through inland method you will be able to apply for an open work permit after the first stage approval but if you applied through outland method and your working holiday visa expires before you get your permanent residence you can either stay in canada by for a work permit and to do this you will need to find an employer who is willing to do the whole LMIA process for you or you can switch to a visitor to do the latter you can simply apply online or go to the border.

Are you sure, it tells me it's required.

IEC Conditional Acceptance Letter (required)
CV/Resume (required)
Passport or travel document (required)
Digital Photo (required)
Police Certificate (required)
Family Information Form (IMM5707) (required)

These are the Document they request.
Getting another Working Tourist Visa appears to be my easiest bet to stay and work.
Thank you so much for your timely reply, I really appreciate it :)

Ah so, it makes more sense now. Just FYI, unless you tell us you're eligible for one of the special programs (like IEC), we tend to assume regular, LMIA-confirmed work permit applications...

This is a good question - I think the answer is no, you don't apply to "extend" your stay because you can't extend IEC permits, you have to apply as if it were a new (first) permit. But someone with IEC experience will have a better response -

I've been given the go ahead to reapply, I can apply this one last time until I'm thirt but hopefully my residency can come through before that.

I have my Conditional letter and the other forms filled out, just need to figure out if it's a Canadian report or my Australian report which might be difficult here. I'm going to hit up the Toronto Police Hq on Monday if that is the case.

Tah everyone for helping.
