Hello:

I am trying to figure out how many points would I get from my education.

Which of the following three will apply to my case?

* Obtained a university degree of two years or more at the bachelor’s level and completed at least 14 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

* Obtained a three-year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship (other than university) and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

* Obtained two or more university degrees at the bachelor’s level and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

I have a total of 16.5 years of study includying a 4.5 university degree from Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua.

Thanks,
Roberto

I am not from Mexico. Do you have one degree? If yes, then 20 points. That is what someone from the US with 16 years of education and with a 4 year degree will get.

Yes I have one degree.

But why will someone with a 3 year diploma, which I consider less valuable than a bachelor's degree, get more points (22)?

Thanks

Ah, you are basing the points on your values, not on CIC's values. Values for CIC (at the time they created the point system) was probably based on demand and supply. For example, in South Africa, plumbers are paid more on an hourly basis than doctors despite the fact that doctors 'study' for longer. This is because of demand and supply and hence the plumber's monetary value is greater than a doctor's.

They give the same points to someone with 2 bachelors degrees as to someone with one 3 year diploma (according to the points), so one bachelors degree should be less than one 3 year diploma.

Damn !!!!!

Thanks for your explanation rupeshhari. I now understad this "high demand" issues.

It's just that this isn't fair but we have to follow CIC rules. We have no choice :(

Thanks
