Page C-1 of the country specific instructions for the U.S.A., the page pertaining to the U.S.A., states: "You and all your family members who are not already Canadian citizens or permanent residents must fill out appendix C and undergo and pass a medical examination, whether they will be joining you in Canada or not."

What family members is it referring to?

I am a Canadian citizen, and I am going to sponsor my future wife who is an American citizen on an outland sponsor application. She has no children or dependents. Just her and her alone.

This statement "You and all your family members........." I wrote above, how would this apply to her?

Then just your wife needs to fill out Appendix C and obtain a medical examination. They aren't talking about extended family, just your spouse and dependents.

I have the same question, except in this case my wife will be going for her meds soon, but what about our daughter? She will be coming with us to Canada, but under her own passport (we applied for her Canadian citizenship cert a while back, so she will have a Canadian passport).

Do we need to get meds for our daughter?

No, she is a Canadian citizen.

Exactly - the point of the medical examination is to look for health conditions that might be a threat to the public (e.g., active TB) or that might place an excessive demand on the social and health care services of Canada - and the latter is not a consideration for spousal/partner class applications.

Citizens have a right to enter Canada that is guaranteed by the Charter. Permanent Residents have a right to enter Canada that is based upon statute and administrative rule. Neither can be refused entry based upon a medical condition - not even one that represents a public health hazard. Thus, they do not need a medical examination.
