Hi,

This query is regarding my brother's assessment from CES. He has a 4 years bachelors degree and 1 year master's degree from the same university. Master's are usually of 2 years from that university but since he did his graduation from it he got the masters done in 1 year.

CES report just gave "4-years Bachelors Degree Equivalence". We are not satisfied with the result and feel like appealing against the decision. Can anyone she light in this case and let me know the process of appeal at the same time.

Thanks

What will you be appealing against? They have told you what the standard of the certificate from the school your brother went to measures with against a Canadian equivalent. Ofcourse you are free to ask them to explain the assessment but you are better off getting the masters credential evaluated by another credential evaluation agency. There are 4 others you can use though the result may be the same as they are all working from the same evaluation template;

Which country did your brother do his bachelors and masters from? A bachelors degree in Canada is 4 years of university after studying 12 years in school / high school.

Thank you Pipis & Expressentry for your responses.

My combined respond to you both is that he did his 4 years bachelors after completing 12 years in school/ high school. He did his graduation (4 years) and masters (1 year) from SZABIST (Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology - Pakistan) in Software engineering. Ans as I mentioned in my previous post that usually masters from here are of two years. He got it in 1 year as he did his graduation from same university and took few courses while doing bachelors which helped in getting Masters of 1 year.

I have few examples with similar qualification (4 years bachelors & 1 year masters) but from different universities in Pakistan and they got Masters equivalence. So Pipis I want to know how exactly they differentiate between standards of institute to determine the equivalence and also if there is a mistake on their part.

Please let me know if there is a deficiency in my knowledge regarding this or if I am missing something.

Thanks.

ECA organisations do tend to discriminate on where the person has studied. I did a 4 years bachelors programme from India but I did a 2-year masters degree from the UK and got masters degree. Had I completed that 2 year masters degree from India or Pakistan, I would have been assessed as some diploma or whatever but surely not a masters. Sadly, the rest of world considers South Asian language, education and work experience as substandard.

It would appear that the quality of education/masters obtained from your brother's particular school is not considered as being at par with similar schools in Canada. The choice to request a reassessment or get a new ECA from another agency is yours.
