hi all,

I sent in my application in Feb, received stage 1 approval in May.
The letter I received from CIC states that our app has been transfered to the Singapore visa office.

However, my wife who I am sponsoring is from Taiwan. According to the CIC website, the visa office that handles spousal apps from Taiwan is the Hong Kong office. I am wondering why we were transfered to the Singapore office instead? I hope nothing has gone wrong.

Occasionally, we have seen reports of files sent to the wrong visa office. Usually, they figure it out and correct it themselves. If you have a file number, I would suggest sending a written letter to the visa office, preferably via courier so you can verify receipt, and advise them that you believe your application was sent to their office in error.

It appears that Singapore and Hong Kong have similar processing times (21 months and 18 months respectively) so it shouldn't impact you too badly, because even if they must forward it their tracking system is supposed to be based upon your original filing date, not upon the date received by the visa office. Still, if it has been mis-filed, itis better to have it resolved sooner rather than later.

Good luck!

I emailed the Singapore office, they actually responded really quickly (within a few hours). It seems my app was wrongly transfered and will be re-transfered to the Hong Kong office.

That's very good news. Most visa offices don't respond to e-mails or case specific inquiries. It's good that you caught it and corrected it so quickly.

Good luck!
