Apartment hunting in Toronto

Hi,

I will be moving to Toronto in March. Been looking for apartment listing online and most said they need a reference and credit check. As someone new to the country, I obviously have neither of those. How should I go about it? I do not want to stay in a hotel for too long. Currently planning on booking a hotel for 2 weeks before my trip. Any suggestions?
