I had a couple of documents (birth certificate and national id) notarized by my family member, they emailed me the notarized copies that I've printed out in color and attached in my file as supported documents, I hope that wouldn't be a problem? CIC have mentioned in the checklist that only photocopies required.

I used notarized copies but those were original. My family member notarized them for me and send to me in Canada through post.
However, Can I ask? Why you are sending notarised photo copy it does not make any difference than the photocopy of original. At the end, it is still a duplicate/copy.

I would recommend send the original photo copy or original notarized.

Thanks...
