June 2022 applicant. No movement since test marked as complete on March 23rd. Ill be travelling in Oct and will just have to move oath date if my application ends up getting process by then. But i plan on travelling next summer and my permanent resident card expires this Dec.

Does anyone know if applying for a new resident card slows down the processing of your citizenship? It ticks me off that ill have to spend more money than intended but im not really wanting my life to be on hold for more than it has been.

Quite a few people who applied for citizenship in 2019-2021 had to renew PR cards before their citizenship application was finalized.
I don't know if it slows anything down, somehow I doubt it.
You will need the card if you're not a citizen by the time you need to travel, otherwise you'll have to apply for PRTD from outside Canada, and nobody knows how long this might take.
PR renewal is supposed to take about 3 months now, but for me it took 4 and a half. Many people think it is best to apply as soon as you can, which is 9 month before expiration of your old card.

On the upside, recent applications are processed faster, so you might not actually have this problem.
So, hard to say. I waited until 3 months before my card expired, and ended up without a card for a month and a half, which I found quite stressful, since having to travel for an emergency would mean that I potentially would not be able not return to Canada for months.
