I'm in the process of being sponsored as an applicant and have been told by CIC I need to provide additional medical information. They've told me I need a psychiatrist report because of my psychiatric diagnoses. Has anyone ever had to do this extra report? Did you have to contact your own psychiatrist? I thought it needed to be a panel physician, but my panel physician made a referral letter for me to use. CIC said to comply within 90 days but I hear a psychiatrist's waiting time could be 6 months. So I feel pretty defeated at this point.

This is a tough one. Can you not get your own Psychiatrist to provide a report? You really have no choice but to comply with CIC

I don't have my own psychiatrist and I'm currently in Canada visiting my husband. So it would have to be here, if anything.

don't worry about the time limit. CIC will extend it for you when you show them your efforts to get it for them. you can write a letter requesting additional time while you look for a psychiatrist near you who can help. perhaps you can contact your psychiatrist at home and ask them if they could help. they may be able to email or mail you what you need.

You can not get a report from your home country DR?

Hi,

You just have to show that you really tried really hard to get the psychiatric assessment required for your application. For example, don't say "you heard getting the report could be 6 months". Go find out for sure. Start calling the clinics, etc. in your area and ask. If after all the efforts done, you can't produce the report in 90 days, then you can send a letter in to your visa officer and probably attach some kind of information (such as appointment date, etc.) showing that you really cannot get it done by 90 days and you have the appointment made with the psychiatrist.

Most likely when you show your visa officer you are doing your best, they most probably will grant you an extension. But be sure to let them know ASAP when you find out.

Don't give up! Good luck to your application.

Any luck? Here's an idea: Could your doctor refer you to a shrink, but make clear that you just need a quick once-over? You're not a new client looking for a big time commitment, just 20ish minutes one time, and they won't hear from you again. It could get you bumped up the waiting list.
