My mother is applying for visiting me now. Her name (spelling in our native language) on one document, is not same with that shown on passport. However, these two name have same pronunciation, and are same in English spelling.

When she fill in Visitor Visa application form (IMM5257E), she cannot fill in "any other name", because the "other name" are same in spelling with formal name.

How to deal with this situation? Is there any form that she can explain this "other name" she had used? Please help us, Thanks a lot!!!!

Hello,

You have to include the name on that document into the "other name" section. As long as the name differs from her name as shown on her passport, you have to include any names in the "other name" section.

If the generic form doesn't allow input, then print it out and write it down in ink.

On the visitor visa application form, it seems only allow input English but not any other languages. Because the "other name" is same in English spelling with the "formal name", it always pop up error information when I input.

Need I print the form and write "formal name" and "other name" both in English and my native language?

Hello,

I would do it on the safe side. I would print out the form and then write it in ink, in Chinese characters or in any native languages.

Or, I would do the form in English, like what you said, and then attach an explanation letter illustrating the names issue and submit together with the application.

Does that make sense?

I got your idea. Thank you very much, queenpies!

We are applying the visitor visa online but no mail documents to immigrant office. Is it available to scan the form with handwriting and upload it online, or is there anywhere to upload the explanation letter?

Thanks again!

Hello again!

There should be a button where you can upload an explanation letter, if I didn't remember wrongly.

Is there a button like that?
