Any one refused entry to Canada

I apologize if this question has been asked but,

My partner and I have booked our tickets to go to Canada on January 22nd, we are still waiting for SA.

I have seen some people have gotten into Canada, but what I want to know is if any one has been refused entry into Canada while in this stage and why.

Any tips for getting through successfully will also be helpful!! ;D

Make sure you have a two-way ticket. Only having a one-way ticket can be a reason for being refused entry. With a one-way, the airline might not even let you on the plane.

My partner is planning on buying an onward ticket to San Francisco for April, so it would be good to buy it now have that to show as proof he will be leaving the country?

Yes. When you check in the airline is supposed to make sure you have a return ticket or an onward ticket (or a visa for a lengthy stay). Otherwise they can be fined by the country the flight is going to. They often don't check. But then you also need a return or onward ticket when you are being interviewed by the border control agent, so it is better to just get one now.

I am not sure if having a return ticket is mandatory when you fly into a country.
What I did was I had an itinerary printed out for the return flight. I didn't actually buy the ticket.

If you are working in your origin country, have those papers. it will help a lot as they know you have a job to get back to.

When I came in I didn't actually have a return ticket or an itinerary. I don't think it's a necessity but it never hurts, right?

Very true, it is better to be over prepared. It is always scary thinking about all the things that could go wrong at the boarder, but it sounds like most people didn't have too much of an issue.

I'm visa exempt but when I flew from the States to Canada the US airline in Chicago checked if I had a valid visa for Canada (although I don't even need one). I had my expired (what they didn't see) work permit in my passport so they let me board. When I arrived in Canada I received a 6 months visitor stamp without any problems
