I am going to send in my paperwork sponsorship etc from outside of canada even though i am here as a visitor. i noticed on the forms that it asks for proof of upfront medical. I have an appt to get medical done on april 21. Am i better off waiting for the proof of that or can i send in before and they they will inform me when they need medical like they do for inland application? I called immigration and one person told me yes send it in and they will let you know when you need medical, the other person told me NO send in proof of medical with application ::) thanks in advance for any advice, i am thinking i had better wait, but i wanted to be able to tell them at the border that i had my paperwork sent in when i apply for an extention of my visitor permit, which i have to get before the 23rd . UGH cant send in for extention because im waiting for a new passport, mine expires april 23.

I would send it in after you do the medicals if I was you. I didn't (and I submitted mine late January 2014) and although I got my sponsorship approval it had a note in there to do the medicals and submit results asap or my app will be delayed or denied.

I agree with Zarilenth. Do the medical before submitting your application. If you send it without, they may return the whole app as incomplete. If they don't return it, the processing will most likely be delayed while they request the medical from you. They tend to put apps on hold while waiting for requested documents.

Your other thread I just responded to made it seem as if you will be applying online to extend your stay but here you say you are going to the border. It is generally accepted to be safer to apply to extend online than to do a border run.

Thanks so much for responding folks i appreciate it. I have been debating what to do as my drivers license expires on my birthday april 9th and to renew it i need to have documentation which says i am legal here for at least the next three months which means i need it in my hand by my birthday and thats why i was thinking of going to the border to see if they could help me out. if i do it online they said it would take about 18 days, i just found out they mailed my passport and should get it tomorrow :D. even so i probably would not get it back in time. Dont even know if the border would help me out.

The problem with going to the border is if the officer decides that you are living in Canada while only a visitor, you can be refused entry back into Canada. Explaining to the officer that you need proof of your status so you can renew your driver's license isn't a good idea, as it is a fairly strong indicator that you are living in Canada when you aren't actually allowed to be.

Extending online is generally the safer option. If it's a matter of not being able to drive for a few days or even a few weeks, it's not such a bad trade-off.
