Announced changes in effect yet?

On the IRCC site in the following link:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2024/09/strengthening-temporary-residence-programs-for-sustainable-volumes.html

there are stricter changes announced for work permit. One of it is as follows:
  • limiting work permit eligibility, later this year, to spouses of master’s degree students to only those whose program is at least 16 months in duration
My wife is now in UBC just started her Masters this fall. Does the above mentioned change already in effect? If that's true then I might be ineligible for a SOWP which I am planning to go for.

Can someone confirm whether this is already in effect?

If you have not yet applied then changes may be in effect. You will only know once you get a reponse.

I wish someone could confirm. Why on earth I will go through all the troubles of applying when I know I am not eligible? Thanks for replying but it does not make any sense to me.

How long is your wife’s program? Why didn’t you apply at the same time months ago? When does she graduate? Because if soon, IRCC will not process within 6 months of graduation and it may take months to process your permit. Need to look a processing times.

She will graduate in December, 2025. I did not apply due to my job situation in home country.
So she has another year. If you don’t want to apply and find out then your choice. You may be okay but this is a public forum and we are not government officials. Also look at processing times for work permit from your country.

If you can show the funds for two people plus tuition, and reasons to return then you should apply.
