An idiots Guide?

Is there an idiots guide to getting work in Canada if you live in the UK? I have been on a few different websites, and its doing my head in, and in some cases they give conflicting information.

On one site they have cleaning supervisors as a type of work, but I find it hard to believe that Canada would find it hard to recruit cleaning supervisors (for the record, I hope that's true) and they also have administration assistance on the list. Another site makes it seem you need to have apply for jobs like health care, teaching.

So, is there a simple (AKA 'idiots guide') way to find out or do I need to pay fees to different agencies and then wait to see if I get lucky?

In order to get offered a job on a work permit, the employer first has to have applied and gotten an LMO (labour market opinion) showing that they have advertised the job and have been unable to find anyone qualified or interested. If the employer wants to hire you, they send you the LMO and you use it to apply for the work permit.

It is possible to get low skilled jobs on a work permit, especially where unemployment is low and these are simply not jobs that Canadians are interested in. However, low skilled jobs tend to not lead to immigration. That is, you may get a work permit for a maximum of 4 years and then you have to go home and stay away for 4 before you can apply again.

Certain low skilled jobs can lead to immigration through employer sponsorship. Those would be truck driving jobs in BC, AB and SK for example or certain jobs in the hotel industry in BC and AB.

As a cleaning supervisor, you'd probably be considered skilled but even if you think it's a low job, you may not get a work permit for it if you have no prior work experience in the field.
