An atheist can do refugee claim in Canada who had been receiving life threat in his home country?

Hi,
I am from Bangladesh. (South Asia) When I was 16, I became an atheist by my thought though I am a Muslim by birth and name. You know Bangladesh is a Muslim majority country. 87/88% of the total population are Muslim. I used to call myself an atheist in front of my friend circle and others people. And I used to say the various type of atheistic words. After listening to my atheistic words, I became the enemy of Muslims. As a consequence, I started receiving threats. Someone also tried to kidnap me but failed to do that. In another incident, someone attacked me and hit my head. I was hospitalized for 1 week. However, after that fatal incident, I felt this country is not safe for me. That's why I decided to leave this country. At last, I arrived in Canada with a student visa. That's how I escape my country. Now I am staying in Canada. Now my question is, in this case, can I claim as a refugee in Canada seeking protection? Is there any refugee protection law like my case available in Canada? Thanks.

Ok got it. But am I not eligible to do refugee claim? Because I have got a visa for 1 year. I have to extend my visa after 1 year. That time I have to provide all of my documents which I submitted earlier for the visa. But you know I won't be able to collect those documents. Then I will be counted as illegal people. It will be the worst situation. That's why if I am able to do the claim telling my insecurity situation in my homeland will Canadian government consider this? Or there is no law for such kinda protection claim?

Your case sounds you have Internal flight alternative (IFA) because you have been threatened by non-state actors and if you move to another city in Bangladesh your life can be safe. RPD would consider IFA in your case to safe your life.

Yeah, it's true that I didn't move any city to save my life. But it is strongly evident that such atheist people are really in huge threat and danger. Between the period of 2013 to 2018 at least 6/7 atheist and artistic writer have been murdered by some terrorist group. When you know those information, news you will be seriously terrified no doubt. That's why you don't want to take that much risk. Because it's all about your life. Imagine that horrible situation. So after knowing those news and getting several life threats, I didn't consider anything else without escaping this country. However, will this claim go against me? Should I discuss with a lawyer regarding my case?

If you have the option to study, get a PGWP and then job and work experience that will allow you to apply for PR it is a way for you to take control of your own destiny. If you have researched the system and know exactly what will be demanded of you and what are the deadlines it is a much easier way to stay in Canada.

Agreed. If there is anyway for you to complete your studies and apply for a PGWP, it’s certainly a less restrictive and faster means of remaining in Canada.
