If an American is staying in Canada for 2-3 weeks and decides to stay for a week or two longer than she informed customs, does anyone need to be notified? Or is it not a big deal because Americans can stay in Canada for 180 days?

Did you get a stamp on your passport with a validity date? Or a visitor record with expiry date?

If no to both, then you have an automatic 6-month status regardless of what you told CBSA upon arrival.

No stamps or anything! Just drove on through and was told "have a fun trip"
