Hello
In my situation i am an American engaged to a Canadian and we met at a mutual friends wedding in Thunder bay, ON. I have so many questions i hope i can get answered. He will be sponsoring me in the family class and i will be applying for Permanent residency up in Canada. We are getting married in January of 2011 (so a few months) here in Washington state. I will be moving up there after our honeymoon and am not completely sure on how to get all my belongings up there and what all i need to do. Do we apply inland or outland? I've heard we have to turn in our paperwork in after we get married to prove that we actually are going to be married. Does anyone have any answers for me on this topic?

Read the first message in this thread: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spousal-sponsorship-t46995.0.html then ask any additional questions you have here.

You can't take all your belongings to Canada until after you get permanent residency. It takes at least 3-6 months and can be 12 months or more. In the meantime, you may be able to "visit" your husband in Canada, but you'll need to prove that your visit is temporary, so you definitely can't bring everything you own.

You'll need to prove you are married, and also that the marriage is not only legal but "genuine" (in other words, it's not just for immigration purposes). You'll need some documentation of how your relationship developed up to the time of the wedding.

Go read that post I mentioned, then come back here and ask about what else you need to know.

Another good resource is the US2Canada website. It talks about all that stuff - "visiting" while waiting for PR, etc., and it gives you info and links to help complete the requirements of the application process (medical exam, FBI clearance, etc).
