Hello,

I am an international student with a student permit valid up until September 2017. I got my student permit in 2013 when student permit did not authorise you to work and therefore my student permit did not carry conditions allowing me to work. However Canadian immigration allowed students to work as of June 2014 and students prior to that are required to get an amendment to their student permit to get the new conditions printed on their student permit. I submitted the amendment form along with a proof of enrolment from university and I got a refusal twice from CIC with very unclear reasons. The first refusal letter said as I received my student permit prior to 2014 these conditions do not apply to me. The second refusal letter said I need to apply for a confirmation letter that will enable me to get my SIN to work. I also spoke the the CIC agents and they were confused about my refusal. An agent sent my inquiry to a higher level immigration officer and told me they'd call me to explain reasons but I haven't received any call. Can anyone explain or share similar experience? PLEASE! I'm very close to losing an amazing job opportunity :( I'm so miserable!!

I desperately need my SIN and it's only possible with the amended student permit. How else do I get my SIN as a student urgently? What can I do?? My job is starting in june
Hope to hear soon

As far as I remember there were no amendments to the study permit. You had to fill a form, within 30 days you get the reply and you take it to CRA.

Yeah but according to new laws you are supposed to apply for an amendment. I spoke to the agents and school immigration counsellor that helped me submit the forms. Could you send me a link to the form you're talking about? I would really appreciate your help!!

Maybe i am the only one who doesnt understand here but are you saying you have completed your course and are no longer in full time education given your study permit expires Sept 2017 ?

Hello, I am actually a full time student and my proof of enrollment also showed that my education is finishing in 2018 and that I'm a full time student until then (I have also applied for a student permit extension). Also, as long as you're enrolled in a DSL university as a full time student and have a valid student permit you are eligible to getting a work authorisation as a student. Then why'd I be refused two times with unclear reasons?

Not sure why you are obsessed with amendments so much when you don't even need it. Any SP issued before June 2014 doesn't need any amendments. As of Feb 2015, CIC even stopped issuing confirmation to work off campus letter.

'On June 1, 2014, if you hold a study permit but you have not yet applied for an Off-Campus Work Permit, you are authorized to work off campus without a work permit as long as you meet the eligibility requirements for working off campus.'

@champion member

how do I receive a SIN if my student permit does not authorise me to work? although I am eligible to work I still need an amended student permit to obtain my SIN. Service Canada wont issue me a SIN without that. please look up what you are suggesting!
