Respected Seniors and Forum-mates,

I completed my lading formalities in September 2010, lived for a week in Canada, and came back to my original country.

Am I obliged to file my tax return for year 2010?

Appreciate your valuable inputs.

Kind regards,
Can10

Do you have residential ties (home, bank account, spouse and children) in Canada?

Thanks "steaky" to take up my query.

I have no ties in Canada. The whole family (me, wife and kid) stayed just for one week in Canada, during that time we applied for the PRC etc., opened bank accounts (current account) with negligibly small amount and returned back to our original country.

We have no job, no house, no credit card, no investment and no family member residing in Canada. Though we are planning to move to Canada for good in a year time from now. All we have left in Canada is less than five hundred dollars in our bank account.

Appreciate your kind advices.

Regards,

Since you haven't home, furniture, credit card, job, you do not need to file the tax return if you have opened just a non-resident bank account unless you want to claim something (such as HST, if eligible) from the tax agency.

Hello Steaky
Need some advice.
I have landed during March-2011 just to complete landing formalities.(got SIN card, Credit card, DL and Bank Account in Canada) and will move back in a months time.
Should I File TAX Return for year 2010 on worldwide income?

Secondly , we have applied for UCB as well since family will stay for few months here. Is it mendatory to file tax return if you apply for UCB?
Thanks
