Hi All,

Could you please guide me?
I got PR two years back thru EE, I am out of Canada at the moment, may not be able to travel for next 6 months, am pregnant, and due date in mid week of April, am I eligible to sponsor the new born baby once I land in Canada later this year? Bit confused of sponsorship rules, I was the primary applicant for EE, I see in family sponsorship page, that one has to wait for 5 years to sponsor a family member, am I eligible to sponsor the new born baby?

Yes you are eligible to sponsor the baby as long as you meet your RO or on track to meet your RO within 5 years from your landing date. Sponsoring can take quite a long time and I assume you don’t want to be separated from your infant while he/she is so young, is the other parent a Canadian citizen or PR? Are they in Canada? You can try to get the infant a TRV although that osn’t guaranteed, if a TRV is denied you can apply for a TRP. Would add that depending on how long you have been outside Canada and your specific provinceyou may longer qualify for health care coverage. You must meet the residency requirement and have a valid card. You may be required to reapply for a new healthcard and no anyway wait time required.
