Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether I will be eligible for applying under CEC

I just finished my undergraduate degree (4 yrs full time) in Apr 2012 in an Ontario university. I'm currently working as a summer research assistant (May - July 2012) at my university. I will start my Master of science in Sept 2012.

So I was wondering if I can start apply in June 2013 (3 months of summer RA and 9 months of of Master) or Sept 2013 (after 1 yr of Master) or laster?

I just called the agent in CIC, they told me that only work experience under a work permit will be accepted. But all (and will be) my work are under a study permit. So it won't be counted.

Thank you in advance

I don't think you are eligible for CEC international grads stream. It requires Canadian education AND one year work experience under NOC 0 A or B category. You are going to study for Master, not work for Master right?Obviously, your master study time is not a work experience. However, you can apply Ontario PNP Master International Student stream for permanent resident if you study your master of science in Ontario.

It requires Canadian education AND at least one year full-time, under a work permit, work experience under NOC 0 A or B category.

Although you are gonna study Master of Science and will be a research assistant and teaching assistant, your duties are part of your study and you are holding a study permit when you work as a research assistant or teaching assistant. CIC officier probably wont deem this as a real canadian work experience.

PNP, Provincial Nominee Program. Most of canadian provinces they have there own immigration program to help skilled and educated foreigner worker to immigrate to Canada. If you get a provincial nomination, you can also apply to immigrate to canada. their website http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/pnp/index.htm

To qualify under the post-graduate stream - The work permit type is a gray area - some insist that the work has to be on a PGWP, other guidance indicates that the work only needs to be (a) after graduation, and (b) authorized - you would meet those two requirements. Perhaps in the next round of instructions this will be clarified.

Full-time student and full-time employe are defined differently. You would need 12 months of full-time employment at a minimum of 37.5 hours per week (or if less than 37.5 hours of work per week, the equivalent in part-time employment, 1950 hours). Some RAs have succeeded in this, but many cannot meet the hourly requirement, at least not in one year. You would have 2 years in which to accumulate enough hours.

PNP = provincial nominee program (it's another permanent resident stream). For Ontario, there is a stream for Master's students. You can see here

Just got a reply from Immigration Specialist in U of Waterloo

The Canadian Experience Class application stream requires that you complete 1 year full-time equivalent work as a post-grad before you can qualify. Working just 3 months as a research assistant is not the equivalent to 1 year full-time work. As well, if you are working during the time of your Masters studies, you would need 16 months of continuous work to be considered equivalent to the 1 year full-time work (3 months full-time during the summer + 16 months part-time (which is equivalent to 8 months full-time)) before you can qualify.

So i can apply in 2014 ...

:'( still have to ask for my parent's money for another 2 yrs ...

why dont you apply for a off campus work permit so you can work during your study. And not eligible for CEC doesnt mean you cannot work. You can still work and have income to support your self.... ::)

I will be study MASTERS OF SCIENCE, so that means I will get paid full time even though i have to pay the tuition => so I still get some money but not enough to support myself.

I can't get an extra job while studying masters.

If I knew this earlier, I would go to work for 1 yr then go back to study Masters

oh well, too late now.
