Hi,
My husband has applied for my spouse sponsorship application and we have just received the step 1 letter with my file number. We have been told that by this step we can apply for visit visa for me and get it without any complicity!! Any idea if this is true or wrong.

Hi MarianaEgypt,
You can definitely apply for temporary resident visa (TRV). There are no restrictions.
However the visa officer (VO) reviewing your TRV, wants to see a strong reason that you will return back to your home country after temporary stay in Canada. This is usually hard to prove, because your husband is the strongest tie and the VO think that you will stay in Canada.
Chances are very slim. Most of the case I have seen is a reject.

Having Stage 1 approval increases the chances of getting the Visitor Visa slightly. If you have the money to spend on a visa and can put together a good application (you will still need to show plans of returning to your country), you could try again. Personally, I hope you are successful. :)

Good morning,

My son's wife twice applied for a TRV without success. Once before they were married and once after :(
The reason they were denied was "not enough ties to her home country"
He rec'd sponsorship approval on Jan 21st... On January 22nd they tried one more time with confirmation of the fees paid as well as the sponsorship approval letter.... On January 29th they rec'd the TRV :) :)
They arrived in Canada on January 31st and were given 6 months. Third time was the charm for our family :)

So... It wouldn't hurt to attempt to get a TRV with sponsorship approval...Make sure you indicate when you apply for the TRV that you do not want to jeopardize your PR application by overstaying your visitor visa :)

Good luck!!

We provided a copy of the receipt that the applications fees were paid for the PR application.

That is actually great news, as I am planning on going this route ourselves. Trick is to be honest.

Hello,

I am a canadian citizen and I am in the process of sponsoring my husband. He is from Mexico and has been in Canada with me since September, 2012. He has a multiple entry visa for 10 years, but as we know for each entry they are only allowed to stay 6 consecutive months, so his visa will be expiring on March 17, 2012.

We just submitted an application (on line) to extend his visitor visa for another six months. On the application, we stated that he is staying with me, and that I am supporting him financially while he is here. We also included a copy of the official receipt that shows the fees we paid when we submitted the sponsorship application, at the beginning of January.

After reading these thread, I am wondering if we have any good chances to get the visa extended, or if he will have to go back to Mexico until we hear from CIC about the sponsorship? :(

Does anyone have any feedback about it?

Thanks,
Paola

How can he go to US while he is Mexican, he will probably need a US visa to go there.

Thanks Mariana.

He is Mexican, and he has both, US and Canadian Visa (multiple entries for both).
He can do that, but chances are that your extension will be approved, if you have indicated that you have filed for PR and put the proofs in your extension request. Most extensions are approved that way. If not - then yes, exiting and re-entering Canada on a US border could be a solution.
Good luck,
