Hi, I am 17 years old college student in United Kingdom, I lived in UK for 6-7 years, I am from LITHUANIA.

I DO own a biometric passport, so that should mean I do not need a visa to go to Canada or to study there right?

Universities always say international students stuff for visa, but what am I counted as? Am I an international student? Because I get the feeling that term is very targetted to those that do need visa. Help please :) ty

Hi,

1. You are an international student.
2. You DO NOT need a TRV to enter Canada. You need a study permit to study in Canada (for courses longer thn 6 months). You can NOT apply for a study permit with in Canada.

What about student grants or somekind of a loan to cover living expenses and the course? I mean, they do that in UK, I am sure there has to be a way for me to study abroad in one of the universities.....as near to toronto as possible would be nice, or IN toronto. Thank you!

Some schools in Canada will give partial scholarships to cover some of your tuition fees. But at the undergraduate level, you should expect to pay at least part of your tuition fees and all of your living expenses. The scholarships available vary from school to school. You would have to check with the schools you are intereted in directly to find out what funding may be available.

Note that when you apply for the study visa, you will have to show a bank account balance that covers your tuition fees for the first year (minus any scholarship) + $10K in living expenses + travel expenses.

Are you a citizen of the UK? If so, they may also offer some grants / bursaries for UK citizens studying abroad.

Obviously you are not a Canadian Citizen or a Canadian PR holder so you will be considered as an International Student. Also you should mention if you are citizen in the UK.

As enfield said Study Permit will be required in your case.

About scholarships you should check with the institute you are willing to join, many institutes do offer them. Also if there are some govt discount/bursaries/scholarships you will have to google them.

Hi,

Most probably OP is from Lithuania, since he is talking about a ‘Biometric Passport’. A Citizen of Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania and Hungary with a biometric passport (i.e., a machine readable) is exempt from TRV of Canada. However, they still need a work/study permit.
