Alternatives to surrendering US Driver's License to obtain CAN driver's license

Hello,
I have recently moved to Canada as a PR while maintaining my H1b status in the US. I plan to continue to maintain my H1b status there. I read online that I can surrender my US driver's license here in CAN to obtain a Canadian one with no tests to be given. I would like to ask the people who plan to maintain their H1 status while residing in CAN as PR, did you surrender your US driver's license? How do you rent/drive a car in the US during your trips? Secondly, if I plan to move back to the US in the later years, do we have to apply for a US driver's license again?

Usually who move to Canada, surrender the license and get Canadian license. As you would need register and get Canadian insurance. Also if you are frequently travelling with US car and residing in Canada you will face problem with Canadian side.
You can drive in US, rent in US with Canadian license. Get international drivers license.
You dont have to surrender US license, you can also start from learners and go through whole new license process.

Getting back US license can be tricky, on Canadian side I have seen all the provinces recognize license from any US state. You can exchange the US license.
Reverse is not true. Not all US states will readily give you US license for your Candian license.
