Hello!
I noticed that CIC has (finally!) updated its website to reflect that Bill C-24 requirements for citizenship enter into effect on June 11, 2015.
I know there's been a lot of discussion on the requirements in the forum, but as a reminder these requirements include:
- 4 out of 6 years of physical presence in Canada immediately before the date of application (vs. the 3 out of 4 currently required)
- Minimum of 183 days of physical presence in Canada during each of the four calendar years that are fully or partially within the six years immediately before the date of application (vs. no specific requirement under current rules).
and which also introduces "intent to reside provision," requires filing of Canadian taxes, and eliminates use of time spent in Canada as a non-permanent resident (non-PR) for most applicants
Other components of the same bill that enter into effect on the same date include:
- citizenship to “Lost Canadians” born before 1947 as well as their 1st generation children born abroad
- Expansion of criminal prohibitions to bar applicants for crimes committed abroad.
- New requirements for consultants
