Hello all,
I recently came across this news article (also reported on several other websites) that Alberta has prohibited the use of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) for 29 skilled occupations (refer to this news article for more details).
I'll be travelling to Canada on a dependent open work permit in a month's time along with my spouse, who is being sponsored for a work permit for Canada in an occupation that is NOT on the refusal list. However, I did confirm that my occupation is on the refusal list (2131, Civil Engineers).
My question is: Does this occupation-based ban also extend to workers already in Canada on an open work permit, or is it limited to preventing companies from bringing in new workers into AB in those occupations using the TFWP?
Any clarification on this topic would help. Thanks in advance!
