Hi folks!

Has anyone recently landed as a new PR (outland applicant) in Alberta? I have been receiving conflicting information about whether coverage is more or less immediate after the correct forms are submitted or whether there exists a 3 month waiting period and private insurance is required.

I'd love to hear from anyone in Alberta!

Cheers :)

I'm in BC, but a quick scan of Alberta Health's website on moving to Alberta (http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/moving-to-Alberta.html) says this: "You are eligible for coverage on the first day of the third month following your date of arrival. If you apply later, the effective date of your coverage is determined when you register. If you paid for an insured health service when you would have been eligible for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) coverage, you may be eligible for reimbursement. "

So yes, it seems that you will have to satisfy a three month waiting period. I believe most provinces, including BC, have something similar.

You will qualify for coverage from day one.

You are quoting from the wrong section. See below that for the section pertaining to new immigrants.
