Does any one know how/where to apply for Alberta Public health insurance. Also how long does it take to get the insurance. What happens in the period of time between the day of landing and the day ones insurance coverage starts in Alberta.

Do they ask for deposit on mobile phone connections in Aberta?

Alberta health care starts from the day you move there if you are moving from another country but you do need to prove that you are living there. One family on here went and opened a bank account and then got a letter from the bank stating that this was their address and it was accepted.

You register for AB health in registry offices, see http://www.health.alberta.ca/health-care-insurance-plan.html to find one convenient for you.

For mobile phone, it's easy to buy a prepaid phone, then there is no deposit but if you want a contract, you may have to pay one or give them your credit card number.

So if one get sick, just go and see a doctor and tell them that you have applied for Alberta health card. And they will pay for it. Is it like that?

I don't know how fast the registries give you a health care card but back when you could get it yourself at the AB health office, they could do it on the spot. If the registries can't do it that fast and can't give you your health care number right away either (the number is really what you need), and it so happens that you find yourself needing a doctor or a hospital in the week or so it might take to get the card, you can phone AB health and ask them the number. If something happens when AB health is not open, you could pay and get re-imbursed.
