Some info for other people in Alberta regarding health care & driving.

Yesterday I went and got my Alberta Health Care set up. Because my OWP is valid for 2 years (until 30 Sept 2017), my health care is valid for 2 years too. It was a simple process. Common law spouse and I had to fill in a form so he could add me to his account. Documents needed for me were passport, SIN number and OWP. Common law spouse just needed his driver's license. My health care was activated straight away & I should receive my card in 2 weeks.

Back in the UK I didn't get my driver's license, I only had my permit (learners). Found out at the registry yesterday that because my OWP is valid for more than 90 days, I can apply for an Alberta learners license and learn to drive over here! So happy as I thought I wasn't going to be able to drive for 2 years!
