AHCIP Temporary Foreign Worker Eligibility Question

A friend of mine is coming from Japan to Canada on a Working Holiday Visa (WHV) for one year. They will be staying in Calgary, AB for the entire work term. With a WHV do you know if they will qualify for Alberta Provincial Health Care?

I'm not sure who to contact for help: I've done research on the Government of Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) website and asked them for assistance, but haven't received a response.

I would really appreciate if anyone who has worked in Alberta on a WHV could share their experience. Thanks!

No - WHV participants are not covered by provincial health care plans. This is why one of the requirements of the WHV program is to purchase travel health insurance.

Thanks for the reply scylla.

On the Alberta Health site under Temporary Residents: "Temporary workers / extended work permits"
(minimum 6 month permits)
AHCIP coverage is valid from the date signed (or the date of your arrival into Alberta whichever is later) until the expiry date noted on your work permit that was submitted to Alberta Health when you applied.
So what does the Government of Alberta classify a WHV as? I thought it was the same as a temporary work permit.
