Hello everyone

Does anyone know if parents on temporary visa are eligible for ahcip?

My mom came for visiting me last year in march 2016 and I am extending her stay since. She is only a person I have and really want her to stay with me. She applied for humanitarian and companionate program last year in October and has not heard anything from them yet. While waiting, Just wish she could have a basic health coverage

Parents in Canada on a TRV are not eligible for health care coverage.

I don't know if the fact she has applied under H&C makes her eligible. I believe it does not.

You can buy "visitors insurance" for her from private companies. Buy it asap otherwise you will have to pay her medical bills (if any) from your pocket.

I actually did, but it s costly and basically useless you just throwing money away but I need it anyway for cic. I bought gms, it costs $1400 a year and cover only few things. She basically can't do a simple things like going to a doctor for prescriptions or if she has a headache can't go to emergency and go on and forth.

I used "Allianz" for my guest and got reimbursed the money I paid for her emergency. I don't remember how much it cost, but I'm glad I bought the insurance.
