Hi all !

My father in law wants to move in with us to Canada.

he is a 50 year old German citizen.

We do know that EU citizen does not need a visa to enter in Canada; however he wants to work inside of Canada, how should we proceed?

Trying to look for that specific case, and have not found anything on the internet.

Thank you all!

EU citizens require an eTA to enter Canada. This allows them to visit as tourists - not move here or live here. Visitors are not allowed to work in Canada.

You haven't said what your status is in Canada.

If your spouse is a Canadian citizen or PR, the most feasible option is to sponsor your father in law through family class sponsorship provided you meet the income requirements to sponsor and are selected through the lottery (there are only a limited number of application spots available each year).

Alternatively he will have to qualify to immigrate on his own through an economic stream like Express Entry. You should expect this will be very difficult for him to do given his age (economic immigration programs give a very strong preference to younger applicants).

If he wants to work in Canada on a temporary basis, he will need a work permit. To get a work permit, he'll need to secure a full time job offer in Canada and his employer will need to obtain an approved LMIA. The LMIA process is long and expensive for the employer with no guarantee of approval (they have to prove no Canadian could be hired for the role). As a result, it tends to be extremely difficult to find employers willing to go through the process.

EDIT: Looks like you are just immigrating to Canada now. In that case you should expect it will be a number of years (at least four) before you will be in a position to sponsor your father in law.

If he wants to move to Canada with you, he would either need to qualify to immigrate on his own through a program like Express Entry or find an employer in Canada willing to go through the LMIA process. You should expect both will be extremely difficult to achieve.
