After taking PR went to Australia to do PHD,
I stayed 4 month in Canada During July 2010 to Oct 2010 and the last 3 years in Australia .
Now I got my degree. After returning back to Canada can I apply for Citizenship?
Can I get exemption from the physically staying in Canada?

1. You need 1095 days of physical presence in Canada in the 4 years prior to the application for citizenship..no you don't get an exemption ..why should you?

2. Your PR must be in good standing until you take the oath of Citizenship...you need to have 730 days of physical presence in Canada in each 5 year rolling period effective the date of landing.

3. You already have an issue with 2 and you better return to Canada ASAP to get your PR back on track. You need to re-enter Canada without being reported for the breach of 730 days. Check the Permanent Residence Obligation section for mutliple threads of returning to Canada without meeting the Residence Obligation....a citizenship application is the least of your worries.
