After Open Work Permit Approval

Hi all,

I received approval today for my Open Work Permit application. Can someone clarify for me whether or not I have to wait for the actual permit to come in the mail before I can start work? That is, assuming that my employer doesn't ask for a copy of the permit itself before starting work.
