After getting lmia approval!! Can I get permit at border? Please help !!!

Hey guys,
Just want to inquire does anyone know can I activate my permit at the border.? I was offered an lmia through a company that had an open, unnamed lmia. I was then told to apply for the work permit for that lmia. I am waiting 5 weeks now does anyone know how long it takes ? I am planning on retuning to Canada soon on a visitor pass. I just want to inquire could I pay the fee? Show proof of lmia and trade cert and I might get it that way?

Do you hold a visa exempt or a non-visa exempt passport?

If you hold a visa exempt passport, you can apply for a work permit at the border on entering Canada.

If you hold a non-visa exempt passport, then you will have to wait until your work permit has been processed and approved before you will be able to travel to Canada. How long it takes depends on where you are from. It can take anywhere from week to months.

Thanks so much. My company was unsure with the new changes and the fact I had a previous IEC they taught that this was the best option to wait. But at 5 weeks I don't fancy waiting for another 3-5 weeks when I can just get it when I land.

Yes you can activate your LMIA at the airport immigration desk on entering Canada. You will need LMIA, job offer and passport along with $155 for the work permit.
