Hi all,
My situation. I've been working in Canada for a Canadian employer for the past 1.5 years.
I started as a part-time, contract employee and after 3 months the employer promoted me to a full-time permanent employee. My OPEN work permit (I came to Canada under working holiday, International Experience Canada) expires in a few months. I'm thinking of asking my employer to help me with an LMIA process. My NOC is 1123 and I'm based in Ontario. How should I approach my employer? Do Canadian employers even know what LMIA is? How do I convince the employer to help me? Also when I was doing research about the LMIA, I read that it's divided between low wage job LMIA & high wage job LMIA as per median provincial salary. My job falls under low paid job. I get around $20 per hour... So the question is: what should I do? Should I ask my employer to help me with the LMIA? If the employer says no then can they fire me because I will make them aware that my work permit is about to expire... In the meantime I keep on retaking IELTS to boost my score. But so far... lacking 0.5 points in writing... MY CRS 435... would appreciate your advise and how to start negotiating with employer. THANKS team!
Also, is it even realistic to get a positive LMIA in Ontario, for NOC 1123 since, I believe, there are a lot of qualified Canadians and PRs to do this kind of job?
