Hi,

I will be sponsored for my school period. been accepted to Carleton - pending deferral for Jan 2017 intake
My question is: does the sponsor have to provide an affidavit (oath stating he will support the costs) or is a simple notarized letter sufficient?
How did you guys do it?

Thanks!

No point in wasting money and effort into a sworn affidavit.

A printed letter of support with sponsor's signature and notarized would be good enough.

If the visa officer is gonna believe that letter, they would believe it even if it's hand written on a paper.

I had my sister send me a printed and notarized letter of support

thank you! you put me at ease. this lack of specific info kills me

The notary did not know how to help me make an affidavit for this specific situation. I gave her one of those templates that you use in court and she said that may not apply and that I need to ask the party that needs the affidavit. Well the CIC has no specific info on this, nor my visa office.

There was a post on this forum with an example and it had a sworn oath at the end(sponsorship declaration page) that looked KIND of like an affidavit. so this is why i asked if i HAVE to have one or the letter is sufficient:

SPONSORSHIP DECLARATION
1. Sponsor’s Full Name: XXXXXXXXX
2. Date and Place of Birth: XXXXXXXXXX
3. Address: XXXXXXXXXX
4. Sponsor’s Occupation:xxxx
6. Sponsors Earnings: xxxxxxx
7. Name, Relationship and Address of applicant who is being sponsored:

I, (NAME and relationship to sponsored visa applicant) hereby solemnly and sincerely declare that if the sponsored person
named above is granted permission to study in Canada, I shall be responsible for his support,
maintenance and accommodation in Canada throughout the period of his stay.
I also undertake to repatriate him at my cost if and when necessary and to bear all the costs
including but not restricted to tuition, accommodation, upkeep and any medical treatment that he
may receive.
I further understand that I may be committing an offence and liable to prosecution if, after I have
given this undertaking, I do not support the sponsored person named above.

Nah! That can be just a printed letter. What's the point of getting that notarized.

Btw I still haven't submitted an application for a visa yet, waiting for a student loan to come through but I got all the other documents ready
