Hi. My husband is Canadian and we are currently in Canada. I am on a visitor visa. We are putting together the paperwork for family sponsorship/residency, and hope to submit as soon as it's completed. However, my passport will expire October 2015--which will probably be mid-application process. Has anyone been in this situation or knows about this who could offer advice? Should I renew my passport before submitting our papers? (Which I'm leaning toward, but then don't know how it will affect the current visa I have in my current passport, as in, would I need to leave the country and return, or would it be transferred to my new passport?)

I guess in short does anyone know if I would run into possible delay or denial of our submission due to passport expiration?

Apply with your current passport once you have applied. That is fine, beacuse your passport is still valid. Now you need to renew your passport before october 2015. When Visa office asks for your passport request. They need the current/up to date passport.

My husband may be in a similar situation as you, does anyone know if we need to tell them that the passport was renewed or can we just go ahead and renew it when the time comes?

As mentioned above, just submit your current one in, even leave a note with it too stating you will update it once you receive new one.
